- Description
- The US Office of Personnel Management (OPM) is soliciting contracts with Health Maintenance Organizations (HMO) effective January 1, 2004. OPM administers the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program (FEHBP), which is the largest employer-sponsored health benefits program in the United States. It covers about nine million federal employees, retirees and their dependents and provides $24 billion in health care benefits annually. This year, about 180 health plan choices are available nationwide. OPM is interested in significantly expanding the numbers of HMOs offered under the Program. OPM can only accept applications for new health plan contracts from HMOs. HMOs should be accredited by a national accrediting organization and be able to process electronic enrollment transactions. Applications must be submitted by January 31, 2003, to be considered for the 2004 contract year. Application materials are available on OPM's website at www.opm.gov/insure/carriers/index.htm or may be obtained by calling (202) 606.0755 or (202) 606.0737.
