Description

NA The Army Research Laboratory (ARL) intends to solicit on a competitive basis for the development of an isolation system for the mounting of an inertial measurement unit (IMU) installed in a 155mm artillery projectile. The IMU will be mounted in the middle of a bulkhead in the forward part of the projectile. The IMU is an approximately two inch diameter, one inch high cylinder that weighs approximately 0.6 pounds with mounting tabs. The IMU will be subjected to 15,000 g's of acceleration in the setback di rection (axial), 5,000 g's in set-forward (axial, opposite direction) and 5,000 g's balloting (radial). The isolation solution must minimize the transfer of shock and vibrational energy above 4,000 Hz from the projectile to the IMU. The IMU and associate d isolation system must survive only a single gun-firing. Three prototypes will be required from successful bidder(s), with an option for up to five additional prototypes. All responsible sources may submit a proposal, which will be considered by the agen cy. No telephone requests will be honored.
