NA CONFERENCE OVERVIEW. The 23rd Army Science Conference, sponsored by the Assistant Secretary of the Army (Acquisition, Logistics and Technology), will be held at the Renaissance Orlando Resort, Orlando, FL, 2-5 December 2002. The conference theme is Transformational Science an d Technology for the Army ... a race for speed and precision. The conference will feature presentations of papers and posters judged as best among those submitted by scientists and engineers from government, industry and academia. Authors of the most out standing papers will be selected to receive special recognition and awards. Exhibits that contribute to the Conference theme will also be displayed. The audience will include representatives from government, industry, academia and allied nations. OBJECTIVES. - To present an opportunity for the science and technology community to discuss the latest developments in emerging technologies and their impact on the soldier of the future; - To provide a forum for the cross fertilization and leveraging of ideas among the many scientific and engineering disciplines relevant to the Army's missions; and - To publicly recognize the important technical achievements of scientists and engineers doing work relevant to the Army. PRESENTATIONS. - Advanced Materials and Manufacturing. - Microelectronics and Photonics. - Lethality Technologies (including Directed Energy). - Biomedical. - Environmental and Geosciences. - Power and Energy. - Force Protection/Survivability. - Advanced Computing and Simulation. - Behavioral Sciences and Human Performance. - Sensors and Signal Processing. - Biotechnology. - Nanotechnology. - Immersive Technology. - Robotics. - IT/C4ISR (Information Technology/Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance. WHO SHOULD ATTEND. Defense (particularly but not exclusively U.S. Army personnel), academia and industry representatives involved with new scientific initiatives and ongoing modernization activities focused on near-term and long-range U.S. Army combat capabilities. Attendan ce at this conference will be beneficial to both management and technical personnel from industry and government who have an interest in the application of new scientific and engineering technologies.
