Description
NA 17. This course provides engineers, geologists, and field inspection personnel with the latest Corps of Engineers and industry methodology for planning, implementing, and evaluating field drilling and sampling projects. It also enhances understanding of methods, mechanics, and products available and evaluates requirements and adequacies of various aspects of these fields. Applicable remote sensing and instrumentation procedures are outlined. Topics to be covered include: (a) Philosophy of field explora tion; (b) Planning an investigation; (c) Drilling methods and machines; (d) Effects of sample disturbance on engineering properties; (e) Drilling muds; (f) Effects of sample disturbance; (g) Rock sampling procedures; (h) Soil sampling procedures; (i) Soil sampling preservation; (j) Special excavations; (k) Vane shear/cone penetration devices; (l) Special devices, optical and geophysical; (m) Field permeability (pumping and pressure testing); (n) Instrumentation; (o) Sampling hazardous materials. The course length is 36 hours to be held 12-16 August 2002, Huntsville, AL. The contractor is responsible for instruction and presentation, development and/or revision and reproduction of Schedule of Instruction, Instructor Lesson Plans, and Tests for Measurement o f Student Achievement, Course Manual, Supportive Training Materials and Visual Aids. The staff shall consist of two instructors, experienced at least eight within the past fifteen years in the drilling and sampling for soil and rock investigation industry . Each instructor shall have at least three years within the past five of experience at the adult education level within a field of study technically associated to that found in the Statement of Work. The contractor shall have at least two years within t he past three of experience in the development of new course materials and/or the revision of existing course materials. One of the instructors mush have an earned graduate degree (MA, MS or higher) in Geology, Civil Engineering, or Engineering Geology. The other instructor shall have an earned baccalaureate (BA, BS or higher) in Geology, Civil Engineering or Engineering Geology. Requests for Quotation may lead to award of a firm fixed price contract prior to 1 Aug 2002. Technical evaluation factors wil l include Industrial/Subject Matter Expertise Experience, Platform/Instructional Experience, Course Development Experience, and Educational Qualifications. See Note(s) #1. All responsible sources may submit a quotation, which shall be considered by the a gency.
