Description

NA A draft solicitation will be issued using source selection tradeoff procedures leading to a 5-year, long-term requirements-type contract for the Improved Position and Azimuth Determining System (IPADS). The estimated date of issue is 15 August 2002. This i s a replacement for the current Position and Azimuth Determining System (PADS). The item is an inertial measuring device using latest technology for gyroscopes and accelerometers. The IPADS provides accurate and timely three-dimensional position informatio n and azimuth for use in control of field artillery cannon, rocket and missile firing. It is used in the field artillery and air defense to accomplish position area surveys and limited extension of survey control networks. It will interface with the Army?s latest version of artillery software to send and receive positioning information to and from the field artillery unit. There will be a performance specification included in the solicitation. The IPADS is considered a Non-developmental item (NDI) and will include a Bid Sample requirement for testing as part of the evaluation. The selected offeror?s item will go through Developmental Testing and Operational Testing after award and prior to full-scale production. The depot level repair will be accomplished by Contractor Logistics Support. Upon completion of repair, the IPADS will be returned to the Depot Repair Cycle Float.
