- Description
- This announcement amends Request for Information (RF) announcement BEP23 previously issued on May 31, 2002, updated on June 3, 2002, and amended as BEP23-1 on June 25, 2002. The BEP is seeking qualified sources of supply to automate its storage, retrieval and delivery system for materials and finished goods. This announcement provides additional information, as follows: Question: The stated AVERAGE transfer is in "qty. of pallets per day" while the PEAK is in "qty. of pallets per hour". Please advise. Answer: Based on our current procedures and practices, we tend to accumulate one or more days worth of work in an area before it is transferred to the next area. The result is that the average quantity movement per day can be moved to the next area at one time, rather than throughout the course of a day. This results in a peak movement per hour that is high compared to the daily average. Please note that while the average and peak movement quantities shown reflect our current practices, they do not necessarily represent our future practice, depending on the final material handling solution selected. That is, the solution may involve moving finished goods from one area to another as the work is completed, rather than accumulating finished goods in large quantities before transferring them to the next process. Question: Will any additional building layout information be available before the new response date? It would be helpful to receive drawings of the halls at the basement and finished goods packaging areas, including the ceiling heights. Answer: We are not able to release any additional drawings of the areas at this time. Question: Can you give me exact dimensions of the individual cash pack? Answer: The cash packages have the following dimensions/variations.Height 5 1/8" to 5 3/8" Width 12 3/8" to 12 3/4" Length 17 5/8" to 17 7/8" Question: Is the concept of moving the individual cash packs from the process finishing room to storage, preparation and queuing feasible? Answer: We will consider this possibility. Question: If this concept is feasible, does the possibility of another meeting or conference call to gain additional info to better estimate cost of such a system exist? Answer: We will not have additional meetings or tours before the response date of July 12, 2002. Question: How many finished product packages are on a pallet and how are they stacked? Answer: There are 40 finished product packages on a pallet. The packages are stacked five to each level, eight levels high. Each pallet has a top that has the same footprint as the pallet platform and is approximately 2? thick. The top is placed on each finished goods stack and each finished pallet is stretch wrapped to hold the packages and top in place. Question: Is there any overhang on the pallet? Answer: The finished goods packages fit within the footprint of the pallet and top. However, there may be some shifting of the load during stretch wrapping or movement from one area to another. Question: What are the weights of the pallet, finished goods package, and the total load? Answer: Each package weighs approximately 32 pounds. The pallet weighs approximately 43 pounds. The total load (finished goods packages, pallet, and top) weighs between 1,325 and 1,400 pounds. Question: What is the height of the load? Answer: The load height is approximately 50? to 52?. Question: Is the BEP?s internal system mainframe or Windows based? Answer: The BEP?s internal system is mainframe based. Question: Although it is mentioned in passing, I assume that we are not to consider the main office warehouse facility in our response. Answer: At this time, it is not necessary to consider the main office warehouse in your response. The time and date for responses and other materials of interest to the Government remains unchanged at close of business July 12, 2002. No additional facility tours can be scheduled at this time. Technical point of contact is James Swann at 202-874-0108. Procurement point of contact is George Robertson at 202-874-3255.
