- Description
- The Gulf of Farallones National Marine Sanctuary(GFNMS) program requires a contractor to provide monitoring of Rocky Intertidal Sites within the sanctuary. The objectives are to: 1) establish non-destructive, stratified random and permanent sampling areas within the mainland intertidal areas of the GFNMS and northern portion of the Monterrey Bay National Marine Sanctuary (MBNMS); 2) determine species inventory for the intertidal communities, update and maintain current species list and associated natural history parameters such as reproductive season, relative local abundance, species of special status/concern, various reproductive strategies and alternate forms, etc.; 3) determine density and percent cover within stratified random and permanent sampling stations; 4) photo-document, collect and archive voucher specimens from the intertidal areas for future reference; 5) update and maintain voucher specimen catalog and archival preparations. The Sanctuary has conducted rocky intertidal monitoring since 1995. Methods to be used shall be compatible with previous work. Updated statistics and field monitoring protocols are expected. Previous methods include: photo and point quadrats (30 x 50 cm areas) and transects established at seven locations within and adjacent to the Gulf of the Farallones and north portion of the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuaries, Pigeon Point, Bean Hollow, Slide Ranch (in collaboration with the Golden Gate National Recreation Area), Duxbury Reef, south side of Estero Americano, Pinnacle Rock, and Bodega Head. Previous annual reports on the sanctuary's intertidal monitoring program can be provided to applicants not familiar with this project. A Request for Proposals (RFP) providing detailed technical and performance specifications and proposal instructions will be issued on or about July 16, 2002. To request a copy of the RFP please contact the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), Western Administrative Support Center (WASC), Acquisition Management Division WC 32, 7600 Sand Point Way NE, Seattle, WA 98115.
