- LAWRENCE LIVERMORE NATIONAL LABORATORY SEEKS PARTNERSHIPS WITH INDUSTRY TO COMMERCIALIZE FIXTURE FOR ASSISTING IN THE REMOVAL AND EMPLACEMENT OF PIPE STRINGS IN BOREHOLES Announcement: Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL), operated by the University of California under contract with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), is seeking one or more industrial partners to commercialize LLNL's fixture for assisting in the removal and emplacement of pipe strings in boreholes. LLNL has invented a safety apparatus that aids in the use of installing and pulling submersable groundwater pumps from deep wells. The LLNL apparatus not only saves time but more importantly prevents on-the-job back injuries caused by the typical method of repetitive motion of bending, stooping, pulling, and twisting. The apparatus has saved approximately 200 to 250 man hours per year for the Department of Energy. The safety factor can represent savings in back injury compensation costs as well. Government and commercial uses for this technology include well maintenance service and pump removal and installations for groundwater such as drinking water, monitoring wells and extraction. LLNL is in the process of patenting this invention. In the meantime, LLNL is seeking industrial partners to commercialize the invention. LLNL is also looking for collaborative research and development to improve the invention and to explore other usages of the invention. Note: THIS IS NOT A PROCUREMENT.
