Description

The Smithsonian Institution is seeking proposals from qualified contractors for construction services at the F.L. Whipple Observatory located on Mount Hopkins near Amado, AZ. The contractor awarded the project shall provide all necessary labor, material, equipment and supervision for the Combined Projects, which shall include, but not be limited to, the following: (1) A four (4) room dormitory building; (2) Installation of fire alarm and sprinkler systems in existing buildings; (3) Renovation of two (2) existing buildings; and, (4) An option to construct a building addition. The date for submission of proposals shall appear in the solicitation documents. The solicitation shall be released on or about August 1, 2002. Copies of the Request for Proposal (RFP) may be received by written request to the following: Smithsonian Institution, Office of Contracting, PO Box 37012, 750 9th Street, NW, Suite 6200, Washington, DC 20013-0907, Attn.: Lloyd McGill, Code 32. Requests may also be made by FAX to (202)275-1263. Requests should be made on company letter head, to include complete street address (no PO Box numbers) phone and FAX numbers and name of point of contact. Drawings, sheets 1 through 95, and specifications, Volumes 1 through 4, may be purchased from Reproductions, Inc., 234, East Sixth Street, Tucson, AZ 85705, phone (520)792-2088. All costs associated with the purchase of plans and specifications is to be borne by Offerors and is non-refundable. Payment is to be made directly to Reproductions, Inc. Award of a contract will be made to the responsive Offeror whose price is, in the opinion of the Contracting Officer, the most advantageous to the Smithsonian Institution. Offerors will be required to post a 20% bid surety. The success Offeror shall be required to post a 100% performance and 50% payment bond, as well as insurance certification. No technical questions will be answered by phone. The estimated range of this procurement is $1,000,000 to $1,500,000. All responsive offers will be considered. Offers will be privately opened.
