- The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) has a requirement for a portion of the annual dues to the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF). THE USGS ANTICIPATES AWARDING THE PURCHASE ORDER TO GBIF. GBIF is an organization, global in scope, that promotes discovery, organization and sharing of biodiversity information for the benefit of researchers, managers, and decision-makers at all levels of the public and private sectors worldwide. The National Biological Information Infrastructure (NBII) is a web-based system coordinated by the USGS that provides data and information on the nations biological resources. It links biological databased, information products, and analytical tools maintained by NBII partners and other contributors in government agencies, academic institutions, non-government organizations, and private industry. In order to accomplish its goals, the NBII must not only participate, but lead in the creation and international adoption of standards and common protocols to facilitate the exchange of biological information and enhance the interoperability of biodiversity databases, information products, and analytical tools worldwide. The GBIF is the premier interoperable network of biodiversity databases and information technology tools that will enable users to navigate and put to use the world's vast quantities of biodiversity information to produce national economic, environmental and social benefits. GBIF supports a distributed information system that enables users to access and utilize vast quantities of biodiversity information to generate new knowledge, wealth and ecological sustainability. THIS ANNOUNCEMENT IS FOR INFORMATIONAL PURPOSES ONLY; no formal RFQ will be available. Vendors who can provide the type service as listed above are invited to provide an affirmative response to this notice. An affirmative response must include, but not limited to offered services, price lists, warranties and any additional information indicating a bona fide ability to meet this requirement. All responses must be in writing, no telephone requests will be accepted.
