Description
Kenai Lake Burn Paper Birch Seed Collection and Seeding Project ? Two phase project: Phase 1 ? Collect 300 pounds of paper birch seed during seed ripening period, between September 15, 2002 and December 31, 2002, clean, dry and store the seed in air-tight containers. Phase 2 ? Establish a 200 foot by 200 foot grid of 4-foot construction lathe in the area to be seeded and hand seed with manual crank seeding machines 2000 acres of National Forest land in the Kenai Lake Burn with paper birch seed starting when 90 ? 100% of the winter snow pack has melted (approximately May 1, 2003) and ending by no later than July 31, 2003. Paper birch seed collection areas will be designated and approved by the Forest Service prior to seed collection. The area to be hand seeded is located on burned over forest land in T4N, R2W, Section 25, 26 and T4N, R1W, Sections 20, 21, 22, 27, 28, 29, and 30 along the north shore of Kenai Lake on the Kenai Peninsula. National Forest lands to be seeded are located approximately 2.5 miles west of the Kenai Lake Work Center and extend west for approximately 4.0 miles along the north shore of Kenai Lake and extend uphill to timberline. This area is remote and access is by boat on Kenai Lake or by ATV across State lands on a State low standard timber sale road which connects to the Trail River Campground Road in T4N, R1W, Section 24.
