Description
The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) Morgantown, WV facility has a requirement for modification of our existing manual gantry system by upgrading the structural components and adding a motorized control system. The upgraded gantry system will safely and reliably protect human subjects from serious injury from potential falls during the stilt gait study. The upgraded gantry system will include an electrically controlled "motion following" system. This system will include joy stick controlled motors which will be able to eliminate the inertial forces as exerted to the human subject, such as initial motion and braking force. Deliverables include: (1) upgrading the current Parker linear actuators to belt and servo-driven linear actuators; (2) addition of a new linear actuator; (3) design of an electrical control system for upgraded 3-axis gantry; (4) software design for upgraded system; and (5) on-site integration of upgraded gantry and control system. The delivery schedule desired is 12 to 14 weeks after contract award. ALL INTERESTED VENDORS MUST VISIT OUR SITE to review the existing system, gain a thorough understanding of the systems proposed for use, and identify components that may be salvaged and reused. It is recommended that arrangements to visit the lab be made through Brenda Goodwin, 304/285-5882 for as soon after the solicitation issue date as possible. NIOSH expects full rights to any possibilities for publication of this work. Request for Quotation 2002-Q-00558 which shall be issued unrestricted on or about August 2, 2002, contains the complete background information and statement of work which must be met by any offeror to be considered for award. Only written requests for the solicitation package will be honored. All responsible sources may submit a proposal, which shall be considered by the agency.
