Description
Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services intends to award a Grant Writing Workshop for Historically Black Colleges and Universities Investigators (Southern Region) to North Carolina AT&T State University, Division of Research, 1601 E. Market, Greensboro, North Carolina 27411. The objectives of this workshop are to: 1) train HBCUs researchers to develop fundable research proposals relative to understanding and improving certain aspects of minority health status, 2) develop an HBCU network of cross-institutional collaborators in health services research, 3) explore methods of increasing minority participation in research populations, 4) examine successful grants that have been written to learn more about the mechanics of writing a fundable grant proposal, and 5) enhance the capacity of HBCUs researchers to work with CMS.The contractor shall supply all the personnel, materials, and supplies needed to carry out this scope of work. The contractor shall have a thorough and demonstrable understanding of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), their needs and capabilities, and shall conduct communications with the appropriate institutions and their faculty members and researchers. The contractor will make contacts with the appropriate HBCUs about the health services research workshop. It shall facilitate the development and implementation of this workshop. The North Carolina A&T State University is a Land Grant Historically Black University and a constituent of the University of North Carolina System. It is the largest among the eleven HBCUs in North Carolina, with an enrollment of 8,300 students and 458 teaching and research faculty. The University offers accredited degree programs at the Bachelor, Master?s and Ph.D. levels ? the doctoral programs are in Electrical Mechanical, and Industrial and Systems Engineering. North Carolina A&T is a comprehensive institution with seven academic schools and colleges ? Agriculture, Arts & Sciences, Business, Economics, Education, Engineering, Nursing, Technology. These units are highly productive and effectively integrate education, research, technology transfer, and outreach. North Carolina A&T is a leader among HBCUs nationally in overall research productivity. The Institution consistently ranks among the top five HBCUs nationally in federal obligations of Research and Development in science and engineering and fifth in the state of North Carolina among both public and private institutions in research expenditures. North Carolina A&T has been sited in local and national media, including Fortune Magazine, because of its high performing competitive research programs and their demonstrated impact. Much of the success of these programs is due to the effectiveness of the University?s infrastructure and governance. The Division of Research is the administrative unit responsible for sponsored programs and related business activity, including program development pre-award and post-award research functions, and technology transfer and commercialization. North Carolina A&T receives more than $26 million annually in sponsored funding and manages a portfolio of approximately 300 active projects valued at $130 million dollars the majority of which are federal programs. This portfolio includes a balanced composition of basic and exploratory, as well as applied research. The portfolio is fuel by a core of faculty experts, multi-disciplinary research centers and institutes, and specialize research facilities. The technology portfolio includes six patents, two copyrights, and a trademark. In addition, the University has developed an aggressive technology transfer, economic development, and outreach strategy link with regional and national networks and initiatives.
