Description

Headgate Rock Dam and Powerplant is on the California-Arizona border, one mile north of Parker, Arizona. The Powerplant is located on the Arizona side of the Colorado River in La Paz County. The work to be performed includes full removal of existing coatings and rust, surface preparation, and furnishing and applying coating materials for the exterior surfaces of three (3) turbine-generator units and associated components. Existing coatings include a topcoat of an alkyd enamel and a primer. Tests indicate that the existing primer and/or intermediate coatings are lead-based or lead-containing paints. Principal features of the work include the following: a. Removal of existing coatings and rust, including but not limited to lead-based paints; surface preparation; and furnishing and applying coating material system for three (3) turbines. Each turbine includes: Turbine mandoor, Draft tube, Shaft guard, Outer gate barrel, Slip ring, Discharge ring, Servomotor assembly, support column, and ladder, Gate operating mechanisms, and Air admission piping. Removal of existing coatings and rust, including but not limited to lead-based paints; surface preparation; and furnishing and applying coating material system for three (3) generators. Each generator includes: Base, Air housing, Bearing housings (upstream and downstream), bearing oil piping, fittings, and valves to generator, exciter, generator bus duct, and bus duct supports. Coating applicators must be skilled and experienced in surface preparation and in the application of specified coating materials. The Contractor will be required to submit written evidence that it successfully meets the requirements of the Society of Protective Coatings (SSPC) QP2 certification. As an alternative to the Contractor being SSPC QP2 certified for Hazardous Paint Removal Projects the contractor or subcontractor shall submit a detailed resume with personnel qualifications data, training and references. Offerors are strongly urged to visit the work site and inspect the existing installation. Estimated Cost Range: between $100,000 and $250,000. The North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) Code is 235990, Painting & Wall Covering, All Other Special Trade Contractors. A competitive solicitation will be available on or about August 8, 2002 and the due date for submission of proposals will be on or about September 9, 2002. No documents will be available until the solicitation is issued. There is no charge for one hard copy of the solicitation. You will receive one complete solicitation with the specification and drawings/pictures. The drawings/pictures will not be available online.
