Description
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) intends to extend its current contract with LEADS Corporation, Arlington, VA on a sole source basis for information technology, X12 support for a period of one year. The current contract effort is for research, analysis and technical support with respect to health care electronic data interchange and the application of American National Standards Institute accredited standards. The requirements associated with implementing the provisions of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) by CMS, are of a complex nature that requires continued high level technical assistance from contractor personnel. The contractor will assist CMS in the development of electronic transactions and procedures for attaching electronic attachments to health care claims and other HIPPA related health care Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) transactions. Extensive understanding and experience with the ASC X12 and Health Level Seven Standards is also required. Due to delays in publishing a Notice of Proposed Rule Making (NPRM) for claims attachments, several of the tasks contained in the current contract have not been completed. It is currently expected that these tasks will continue through FY 2003 and in order to complete the tasks, the current contract will be extended for a period of one year. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive proposals.
