- Description
- The Food and Drug Administration intends to award a non-competitive, sole source contract to the William Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak, MI to study the molecular genetic basis and transferability of quinupristin/dalfopristin (Q/D) resistant genes in Enterococcus faecium. The work to be performed will focus on a unique set of Q/D resistant E. faecium isolates collected from humans. These isolates will undergo a series of procedures, including: determination of susceptibility profiles, pulse field gel electrophoresis, DNA extraction and PCR analysis, conjugation studies of streptogramin resistance determinants to determine transfer frequencies, plasmid analysis, DNA cloning to identify novel resistance genes, and DNA sequencing. The results from these analyses will be compared to similar analyses conducted on E. faecium isolates from animals and food products. Other parties besides the William Beaumont Hospital interested in and capable of performing this work shall submit their capability statement on or before August 14, 2002.
