Description
NASA/LaRC is hereby soliciting information for potential sources for Laser Diode Array. As part of a Laser Risk Reduction Project, NASA Langley plans to evaluate and compare the performance of different high power Laser Diode Arrays suitable for pumping 2-micron solid state lasers. Laser Diode Arrays have been identified as one of the major risk areas for development and deployment of laser-based instruments in space. Therefore, NASA Langley plans to acquire, characterize, and evaluate high power Laser Diode Arrays with different material compositions, architectures, and packaging in order to identify the best suited devices for pumping 2-micron solid state lasers. The general requirements of these devices are listed below. Wavelength: 792 nm Peak Power: > 500 W Pulse Duration: > 1 msec Duty Factor: > 1% Package: Conductively-cooled The major parameters of interest are output beam quality and luminance, thermal characteristics, lifetime and reliability. The performance of the devices will be compared with each other and with the existing Laser Diode Arrays previously acquired by NASA Langley. No solicitation exists; therefore, do not request a copy of the solicitation. If a solicitation is released it will be synopsized in FedBizOpps and on the NASA Acquisition Internet Service. It is the potential offerors responsibility to monitor these cites for the release of any solicitation or synopsis. Please advise if the requirement is considered to be a commercial or commercial-type product. A commercial item is defined in Internet "Note A". This synopsis is for information and planning purposes and is not to be construed as a commitment by the Government nor will the Government pay for information solicited. Respondents will not be notified of the results of the evaluation. Respondents deemed fully qualified will be considered in any resultant solicitation for the requirement. The Government reserves the right to consider a small business or 8(a) set-aside based on responses hereto. All responses shall be submitted to Roberta Hollifield, NASA/LaRC, M/S 126, Hampton, VA 23681; fax number 757-864-6966 no later than August 9, 2002, 2:00 p.m. local time.
