Description
During the FY03 time frame, the U.S. Army Tank Automotive and Armaments Command, U.S. Army Armament Research, Development and Engineering Center (TACOM-ARDEC) may release an acquisition for one (1) 120mm mortar semi-automated ammunition magazine system and semi-automated projectile loader capable of accommodating all existing fielded and future U.S. 120mm cartridges. This magazine system will index and supply the semi-automated projectile loader with the chosen mortar projectile for preparation. The semi- automated projectile loader will load the round. The semi-automated ammunition magazine system will be comprised of a projectile retention subsystem capable of storing the maximum amount of mortar cartridges within the given envelope, a processor subsystem with user interface in order to manage round inventory, sensors and diagnostics to monitor system functions, and an indexing function to move rounds to a desired position for loading and storing rounds. The magazine will stow rounds horizontally to simplify the re-supply and gun loading processes. The semi-automated magazine will transfer a round within two (2) seconds from a fire request; and maintain and update current inventory status. The semi-automated projectile loader subsystem will be comprised of an articulating transfer tray to bridge between the magazine and the main armament with the ability to stow out of the way of the recoiling main armament and rammer to transfer rounds into the main armament. Projected award is in the 1QFY03. The basic contract will be for a quantity of one (1) system in FY03 and the delivery of the FY03 quantity shall be completed by October 03. This contract will include a requirement for engineering support for testing.
