- Description
- NASA/LaRC plans to issue a Request for Quotation (RFQ) for QUASI-CW LASER DIODE ARRAYS with various specifications. This procurement is being conducted under the Simplified Acquisition Procedures (SAP). NASA/LaRC intends to purchase the items from CUTTING EDGE OPTRONICS (CEO) who is the only responsible source and no other supplies or services will satisfy agency requirements. This purchase is part of an ongoing series of purchases from various laser sources. The purpose of these purchases is to evaluate multiple laser diodes to advance technology and improve the reliability of lasers proposed. These laser diodes will be operating at 792 nm wavelength and will be used as a pump for 2-micron solid state laser systems under development at LaRC. To ensure the potential for significantly improved characteristics, CEO has been selected as a result of a Sources Sought synopsis that was published on August 2, 2002. The results concluded that CEO's diode-pumped lasers offers unique technologies, with considerable potential to advance the technology. The Government intends to acquire a commercial item using FAR Part 12. Interested organizations may submit their capabilities and qualifications to perform the effort in writing ONLY to Ms. Terry Cobb, NASA/LaRC, M/S 126, Hampton, VA. 23681; fax number: 757-864-6966,not later than 2:00 p.m. local time on August 30, 2002. Such capabilities/qualifications will be evaluated solely for the purpose of determining whether or not to conduct this procurement on a competitive basis. A determination by the Government not to compete this proposed effort on a full and open competition basis, based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the government. Oral communications are not acceptable in response to this notice. All responsible sources may submit an offer which shall be considered by the agency. An Ombudsman has been appointed.
