FOR SERVICES AS ORGANST/PIANIST AS SHOWN ON FOLLOWING STATEMENT OF WORK FOR PERIOD 01 OCTOBER 2002 THRU 30 SEPTEMBER 2003. STATEMENT OF WORK, NAVAL STATION NEWPORT CHAPEL OF HOPE, ORGANIST/PIANIST 1. Effective Date: 01 October 2002 2. Termination Date: 30 September 2003. This contract may also be terminated upon ninety (90) days advanced written notice by either of the contracting parties. 3. Services to be Provided: Organist/Pianist in support of the Command Religious Program at the Naval Station Newport Chapel. 4. Provisions of the Contract: The Naval Station Newport Chapel of Hope, Newport RI desires the services of an accomplished organist/pianist in support of the Command Religious Program worship services. The unique nature of the religious worship and music is an integral part of religious worship and dictates a flexibility in the performance of services provided by this contract to the following extent:a. The organist/pianist shall play at four (4) worship services on Sundays. Each worship service will last approximately one hour. Worship services are scheduled at 0800, 0900, 1030, and 1200.b. The organist/pianist shall rehearse with the Catholic Cantor/Choir once a week and the Protestant choir once a week at the Chapel of Hope for one hour each. The time and day of the practice is left to the discretion of the Senior Staff Chaplain and the Choir Director.c. The organist/pianist will be available upon forty-eight (48) hours? notice, either with verbal or written notice, to provide organist/pianist services as necessary to the Protestant and Catholic programs of the Command Religious Program.d. The organist/pianist will provide thirty-five (35) extra organist/pianist services per year as needed by the Command Religious Program and the Senior Chaplain.e. The organist/pianist will provide a comparable replacement (in ability and qualifications) in the event of an absence. 5. Description of Work: Under the following guidelines, the organist/pianist will support the music program and needs to the Command Religious Program: a. Weekly Rehearsals and Service Preparations;(1) Consult weekly with the Choir Director, when necessary and requested, with the coordinating chaplain for Sunday worship services.(2) Be able to modify, alter and tailor the performance of musical selections to the needs and desires of the Choir Director and worship service coordinating chaplain. Take into consideration the unique requirements of different faith groups and religious traditions.(3) Rehearse during the week with the Catholic Cantor/Choir and Protestant chapel choir the music for Sunday worship services under the direction of the Choir Director. There will be at least one Catholic Cantor/Choir rehearsal and one Protestant choir rehearsal per week.b. Sunday Worship Services:(1) To facilitate Sunday worship services, the organist/pianist will be expected to: arrive prior to scheduled services to become familiarized with the bulletin, last minute changes, additions or deletions to the worship services, and to receive and incorporate in the music program any special instructions of the Choir Director or chaplain; establish friendly relationships with the congregation and assist in the recruitment of choir members.c. Other Requirements:(1) The organist/pianist shall play musical selections provided by the coordinating chaplain.(2) Coordinate with the Religious Program Specialist for any needed maintenance of the Allen Digital Organ, Steinway Grand Piano, upright piano, or for any necessary replacement of sheet music that have deteriorated. 6. Qualifications: a.Read music, have knowledge and background in music. b. Demonstrate proficiency in playing the Allen Digital Computer Organ and the Steinway Grand Piano, and demonstrated ability to play other pianos, acoustic and electric, as required. 7. Location of Services: a. Unless otherwise directed by the Senior Staff Chaplain, all services will be provided at the Chapel of Hope at Naval Station, Newport, RI. 8. Invoice: a. An itemized invoice shall be submitted by the contractor at the close of each month listing all services rendered to the Senior Chaplain for verification.
