Description
The Weapon Systems and Technology Team from the Heavy Armaments Division (HAD) of the Close Combat Armament Center (CCAC)Picatinny Arsenal, has US Army responsibility for the design and development of Advanced Concept Tank Ammunition. Typically, several programs are ongoing within the Weapon Systems and Technology Team at any one time. For each program, several concepts are usually considered. A vehicle is needed to provide manufacturing/machine shop support capability for the development and testing of these concepts. Items to be produced will be "speciality in nature". Other items may involve the use of "smart materials" or other exotic materials. This contract will mainly involve, but not limited to, large calibers. It may also involve, but not limited to, medium calibers as well. In order that the Government receive desired high quality products in a timely manner, face-to-face contact between the Government Design Engineers and the contractor manufacturing/assembly Technicians must be encouraged and maintained. This must be accomplished in a way which is mutually beneficial to both the government and the contractor. Having the contractor for this proposed contract located within a 40-mile radius of Picatinny Arsenal will accomplish this by allowing the government design engineer(s) to leave Picatinny Arsenal at a moments notice to travel to the contractor?s facility and arrive within one hour. Therefore, a 40 mile radius restriction will be required. The items to be manufactured and assembled during the course of this contract are of a Highly complex/highly specialized nature and will involve the use of ?emerging technologies? (e.g., microelectromechanical systems (a.k.a. MEMS)) and/or exotic materials (e.g., shaped memory alloys (a.k.a. SMA?s)). Notes 1 and 26 apply.
