Description
The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), Advanced Technology Office, and Air Force Research Lab (AFRL) Sensors Directorate will be Co-hosting an Industry Day and THOR Phase 1 Technology Review on Tuesday, 22 October 2002 at the Williamsburg Marriott Hotel, Williamsburg, VA. The purpose of the Industry Day and THOR Phase 1 Technology Review is to familiarize and update industry and academia with the Tera Hertz Operational Reachback (THOR) Program. The first amendment to the AFRL Broad Agency Announcement (BAA) 02-08-SNK, focusing on THOR Phase 2, will be released soon after the Industry Day. Information contained in the BAA announcement takes precedence over any information obtained from the Industry Day or any other sources. The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), Advanced Technology Office (ATO) and Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) is intending to further pursue enabling communications technologies via the Tera Hertz Operational Reachback (THOR) Communications Program. This industry day and technology review is intended to provide potential sources with advanced information that may be useful in preparing proposals when the AFRL BAA 02-08-SNK amendment is issued for this program. The THOR initiative is developing mobile free-space optical hardware, system and networking technologies and system concepts that extend the reach of the Global Information Grid (GIG). The program goal is an affordable family of terminals with an order of magnitude reduction in Size, Weight, and Power over current state of the art. This effort requires the involvement of a wide variety of government (Joint and Service Laboratories) and commercial technology development centers. AFRL BAA 02-08-SNK contains the list of enabling technologies which may be applicable to this project plus an overview of the program phases. A web site has been established at http://www.schafercorp-ballston.com/thor2002/ that provides registration information, agenda , and information to be presented during the Industry Day and THOR Phase I Technology Review. Badging and sign-in will begin at 0700 hours on 22 October, and the briefings will begin at 0800 hours and conclude at 1535 hours. The meetings and briefings will be UNCLASSIFIED. One on one and team building sessions will be available starting at 1535 hours to 1800 hours. These team building sessions are being made available for contractor-to-contractor interaction only. No Government personnel will be involved in these team building sessions. These sessions will be scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis on the day of the meeting. Interested parties should register for the Industry Day and THOR Phase 1 Technology Review via the website provided above.
