Description
The National Park Service (NPS) intends to award five concession contracts for guided multi - day mountaineering expeditions for the public on Mt. McKinley and other peaks of the Alaska Range within the portion of Denali National Park and Preserve formerly known as Mt. McKinley National Park (Old Park). The proposed contracts will have a term of January 1, 2004 through December 31, 2013. The prospectus will explain the business opportunity, the terms and conditions under which the NPS will award the concession contracts, the proposal instructions and proposal package (including the selection factors). The solicitation, selection and award of the concession contract will be conducted pursuant to 36 CFR Part 51. In addition to the five contracts noted above, the NPS intends to award concession contracts for the same service and the same term to the following three companies for the scope of services identified after their name in parenthesis: National Outdoor Leadership School (18 clients West Buttress of Mt McKinley + 2 mountaineering trips in the old park), Rainier Mountaineering (23 clients West Buttress of Mt McKinley) and Mountain Trip (17 clients West Buttress of Mt McKinley). These contracts will be awarded pursuant to section 1307 of the Alaska National Interest Lands Conservation Act, 16 USC 3197 and 36 CFR 13.80-13.82. Generally historical operators have a right to continue to provide the same kind and scope of service that they were legally engaged in providing prior to January 1, 1979 pursuant to 36 CFR 13.82(a). NPS has determined that these three companies are historical operators eligible to be awarded contracts. The park intends to release the prospectus on September 4, 2002.
