- The Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command (SPAWAR) and the San Diego Chapter of the National Defense Industrial Association (NDIA) will co-host their annual Industry Conference at the Bahia Hotel in San Diego, Wednesday, October 30th through Friday, November 1st. The theme of the conference is "SPAWAR and Industry: Integrating Systems for Transforming the Military." The conference is intended to foster a dialogue between industry and SPAWAR, enhancing mutual understanding of DoD policies on transformation, SPAWAR contracting processes and the fleet's perspective on information technology. Only those programs of record that have present or future contracting opportunities will be briefed at the conference. Speakers include: - Hon. Susanne Patrick, Dep Undersecretary of Defense (Industrial Policy) - VADM Michael Bucchi, USN, Commander, U.S. THIRD Fleet - VADM Richard Mayo, USN, Commander, Naval Networks Warfare Command - BG John Thomas, USMC, Deputy Director, C4, HQ USMC - RADM Ken Slaght, USN, Commander, SPAWAR - RADM Robert Cowley, USN, Dep. for Acquisition & Business, ASN(RD&A) - Mr. Gilbert Decker, Past CEO, ESL, Inc. and former ASA (RD&A) - Mr. Jay Dragone, VP, Lockheed Martin Corp., USCG Deepwater Program - CAPT Craig Madsen, USN, Program Manager, NMCI - CAPT Basil Gray, SC, USN Director, Contracts Division, SPAWAR The conference will include a choice of two tour options on Wednesday, 30 October. These are a tour of North Island, including the USS Nimitz, the NASNI meteorology operations center, and the NMCI operations center or a tour of SPAWAR Systems Center, San Diego, including, the Command Center of the Future and information display initiatives. Registration and the complete program are available at http://www.ndia-sd.org. A Kick-Off reception will take place at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, 30 October, aboard the sternwheeler "William D. Evans." The "William D. Evans" will depart the Bahia Hotel pier. All registered attendees and program participants are invited to attend. Conference participants may bring guests on the cruise with the purchase of a guest ticket at time of registration/check-in. "William D. Evans" will cruise Mission Bay for approximately 2 hours, returning to the Bahia pier approximately 8:30 p.m. In conjunction with this event, the Navy League will also host "Homeland Security - a Commanders Perspective" on Tuesday, 29 October, 1:30-4:30 p.m. at the Bahia Resort featuring members of the FBI, Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard. For detailed information, go to http://www.navyleague.com/homeland.html In addition, on October 30th, join the San Diego Business Journal for a half-day "Doing Business with the Government" symposium on the ins and outs of defense contracting and how to enter the business arena with government at Sheraton Hotel Harbor Island ? 8 am to 2 pm. Speakers include John Stammreich, Phantom Works, Boeing; Congressman Randy Cunningham, 51st District of California; Steve Weatherspoon, Lockheed Martin; Rear Admiral Ken Slaght, SPAWAR; senior executives from SAIC. The conference will close on Friday 1 November with an NDIA-sponsored Awards Banquet beginning with a reception at 6:00 p.m. followed by Dinner and Speaker at 7:00 p.m. in the Bahia Ballroom. Separate tickets are required for this event and may be purchased when registering for the conference.
