Description
Last year the FAA released a new draft specification for public comment, FAA-E-2952 for Steady Burning Semi Flush Approach Lights. The new specification will replace the current 1975 specification, FAA-E-2491b. After several subsequent rounds of internal reviews, the AND-740 Product Team expects that the new specification will be baselined for competitive procurement in early 2003. Meanwhile, however, the FAA has requirements for fixtures to accompany ALSF-2 installations at three sites with near-term construction schedules: Chicago, IL, and Manchester, NH, in April 2003 and Boston, MA, in July 2003. The construction schedules will not allow for combined competitive procurement lead time and lead time to produce, test, and approve a first article prior to beginning production for site deliveries. To fulfill requirements at these sites, the Product Team plans to negotiate a contract with Multi Electric Mfg., Inc., Chicago, IL, for its previously approved type no. ! FA10045 steady burning, semi flush, approach lights in accordance with the current specification and in the following quantities: type no. FA10045/1 (clear) - 242 each, type no. FA10045/2 (green) - 168 each, type no. FA10045/3 (red) - 179 each. The Product Team believes Multi Electric to be the only source whose fixtures have already undergone and passed first article tests under the FAA specification and therefore the only source capable of meeting the site construction dates.
