Description
The U.S. Army, TACOM-ARDEC anticipates awarding a sole source contract to Israel Military Industries (IMI) to procure approximately 530 each grenade (M42 & M46 bomblet) fuzes to be used for test and evaluation for the re-capitalization of M864 155MM artillery projectiles. The fuze must meet stringent reliability and safety requirements and must include a self-destruct (SD) feature. The fuze must comply with the requirements of MIL-ST-1316. The fuze must be compatible with the existing grenade (drawing 9349370 typical), existing LAP process, its mode of operation and operation environments. The fuze must be safety certified in accordance with U.S. standards to assure safety and environmental compliance for testing at U.S. Proving Grounds. The fuze in the flight configuration (fuze, minus safety pins and safety clip, plus stabilizer and stabilizer retainer) shall not exceed 17.5 grams maximum. The fuze must allow for a delay after dispersal from the projectile to permit operation of the primary function upon target engagement. The fuze must have independent primary and SD features. The fuze primary function mode must have a reliability of at least 97% and a combined primary and self-destruct function reliability must result in a dud rate of less than 1% required. It is desired to have the combined primary and self-destruct function produce a non-neutralized dud rate of 0.2% or less. A neutralized fuze defined to be a fuze with a sensitive initiative explosive trail elements in the fuze destroyed. POC for this announcement is Kathleen Sage, Contract Specialist, U.S. Army TACOM-ARDEC, Picatinny Arsenal, NJ 07806-5000. Reference Numbered Note 22.
