Description
The Office of the Product Manager for Mortars is seeking proven producers with extensive experience and facilities in place to provide 60mm Mortar Cartridge M27 Fins. First Article Test is required to be performed approximately 5 months after contract award and production lots to be delivered on thirty day intervals commencing 7-10 months after award. The quantity in each production lot is estimated to be a quantity up to 10,000 M27 Fins per month. The M27 fins is a canted 6 Bladed One Piece Fin used on the rear of a number to 60mm Mortar Cartridges to stabilize the Mortar Cartridge in flight. Manufacturers need to possess expertise in machining materials to reasonably tight tolerances (e.g.+/-0.0025 inch) and conducting specialized tests such as hydrostatic testing (approx. 18 KPSI). The fin is approximately 5.5 inches long and has a maximum outside diameter of 2 3/8 inches. The fins are made from extruded aluminum alloy (two material choices are permitted with a minimum strength of approx. 40 KSI). The ID of the fin is not completely hollow, therefore, the ability to bore is required as is the ability to drill a series of flash holes perpendicular to the centerline of the fin. Due to the configuration of the fin, a significant amount of the machine work required will involve interrupted cuts. This is a sources sought notice for planning purposes only.
