- Description
- The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) intend to negotiate on a sole source basis with Dr. Kang Rao, 2502 Lindley Terrace. Rockville , Maryland, 20850 to continue research in the NHLBI, Laboratory of Molecular Cell Biology, to focused on the study of melanocytes isolated from mice harboring mutations in a variety of coat color genes. Dr. Rao, will provide an invaluable service by preparing and maintaining primary cultures of melanocytes, as well as construction of DNA vectors for many projects in the lab. Dr. Rao, will continue to pursue an on going project related to the regulation of myosin Va by phosphorylation. Dr. Rao, has been a research fellow in the Lab of Molecular Cell Biology, for the last five (5) years. In addition to having experience in a large number of molecular biological and biochemical techniques, she is an expert in the preparation of primary melanocyte cultures from mice. These cultures are central to our research efforts. The contractor shall perform a variety of molecular biology (e.g. DNA preps) and biochemical (e.g. expression and purification of proteins from E.coili and insect cells) techniques to facilitate the overall research, prepare and maintain primary culture of mouse melanocytes, maintain the mouse colony. Perform in-vitro and in-vivo experiments designed to characterize a phosphorylation site in myosin Va. The period of performance is approximately twelve (12) months from the date of award, or not to exceed Two hundred sixty hours, (260) which ever occurs first. The contractor will work independently coordinating his efforts with the Project Officer.. The Government intends to award within fifteen (15) days from the publication date of this synopsis or November 6, 2002 which ever is later. The acquisition is being conducted under simplified acquisition procedures and is exempt from the requirements of FAR Part 6. The North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) is 541990 and Standard Size is $6.0 million. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive proposals. Interested parties may identify their interest and capabilities in response to this requirement. The determination by the Government not to compete the proposed contract based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government. Information received will normally be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct future competitive procurement.
