Description
NA Technical POC: Dr. C. Ward Trussell, CECOM Night Vision and Electronic Sensors Directorate, Ft. Belvoir, VA, 703-704-1355, ward.trussell@nvl.army.mil The US Army CECOM Night Vision and Electronic Sensors Directorate is issuing this BAA to solicit proposals for a manufacturing program to reduce the cost and improve the performance of laser diode arrays for pumping military lasers. The program will cons ist of 3 subtopics. The bidders may propose to work on 1, 2, or 3 of the subtopics below: 1. 930 nm high brightness laser diodes for pumping Er:Yb:glass micro-lasers producing 4 watts from a 100 micron aperture in a flat package. 2. 807 nm unmounted bars ( 1 cm linear arrays) producing at least 100 watts in a 300 microsecond pulse for pumping solid state lasers. 3. 807 nm laser diode arrays meeting the requirements of Army laser designator/rangefinder systems including reliability over temperature. The period of performance is anticipated to comprise approximately thirty-six (36) months. The Government anticipates award of Other Transaction type agreements concerning this BAA. The Government reserves the right to determine the type of contract. Th e funding available for this BAA is $2.8M. The key objectives of this program are to develop sources of low cost, high reliability laser diodes and laser diode arrays for pumping solid state lasers for various Army systems. The program is intended for companies who are currently manufacturing lase r diode devices as described in the subtopics. The program will identify fabrication processes that are cost drivers in the manufacture of laser diodes and implement improvements in the processes to reduce the cost of laser diode devices, bars and arrays by 2x in production quantities.
