This is a sources sought for the following: A vendor product to provide an automated weather data collection and reporting system for hand-emplacement and air-drop scenarios. The vendor product shall be a self-contained, lightweight (less than 10 pounds without batteries) meteorological sensor system with a transceiver capability. The transceiver will provide a long-haul communications link for near-real-time data reporting. The vendor product may be modular to accommodate the lightweight requirement. The meteorological sensors shall include the following: wind speed (0-45 knots data range and +/- 1 knot accuracy), wind direction, ceiling height (0-8000 feet data range and +/- 20 feet accuracy below 1500 ft), horizontal visibility, surface pressure (600-1080 millibar data range and +/- 1 millibar accuracy), air temperature (? 40 to +120 degrees Fahrenheit data range and +/- 2 degrees F accuracy), precipitation, and relative humidity. It shall also provide location, and elevation data. Eye-safe lasers are required for the ceiling height sensor(s). The vendor product shall allow programmable reporting intervals and measurements via direct link and over the air. It should operate off 12 Volts DC. The vendor product shall be self sufficient and capable of 24-hour operation for a period of 60 days. Information submitted in response to this announcement does not constitute a proposal, but will be considered an exchange of capabilities and ideas.
