Description

Phase I prehistoric archaeological survey and a Phase I historic archaeological survey at the Hanscom Farm in Columbia Falls, Washington County, Maine. Following regulations of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 (36 CFR 800.4) and in consultation with the Maine Historic Preservation Commission (MHPC/State Historic Preservation Office), the Phase I survey is necessary to identify archaeological properties (prehistoric and historic) within the 26.7 acre area of potential effects (APE). The requested archaeological work will entail archival, field, and analytical studies to identify archaeological properties within the 26.7-acre APE. All archaeological work must meet the requirements of MHPC's Contract Archaeology Guidelines (1992), and Archeology and Historic Preservation; Secretary of the Interior's Standards and Guidelines (1983). A service contract will be awarded. Estimated price range is $25,000 to $100,000. It is anticipated that work will commence in mid October and be completed within 60 days. To be eligible for award, contractors must be on the approved lists of both Prehistoric and Historic Archaeologists, maintained by the Maine Historic Preservation Commission.
