- Forest Service Contracting, Helena National Forest 2880 Skyway Drive Helena, MT 59601 Pre-Solicitation Prospectus For The Magpie Gulch Placer Bench Cuts Project. . The Townsend Ranger District, Helena National Forest is announcing a pre-bid tour of a restoration construction project in the Magpie Gulch watershed in the Big Belt Mountains east of Helena in Broadwater County. A pre-bid tour has been scheduled for November 12, 2002 to provide an overview of the scope of the projects.. Introduction: This prospectus provides initial information on a construction solicitation for bid that may be advertised in the spring of 2003, for work to begin during June or July of 2003. Since these areas may be inaccessible during the advertising period, the following tour of the project area is scheduled for this fall in order that on-the ground conditions can be observed in advance of the proposed advertising period. Description and Location of Work: The Magpie Gulch Placer Bench Cuts project includes replacing fill material and reshaping slopes to restore two areas of historic placer mining. Purchasing and placing topsoil, and seeding is also included.. Pre-Solicitation Showing: A pre-bid tour for the project will be Tuesday, November 12, 2002. Bidders wishing to view the Magpie project can meet at the junction of Magpie Gulch (Forest Road 425) and the Canyon Ferry Road (Highway 284) at 9:00 a.m. The Forest Service guide will show on the ground locations of the work areas, boundary markings, routes of travel that may be utilized in going to and from the work and other items concerning the ground to be worked. Interested parties desiring to visit the project sites on their own may obtain directions by contacting either Beth Ihle at the Townsend Ranger District at (406)266-3425 or Charlie McKenna at the Helena National Forest Supervisor?s Office at (406)449-5201, ext 227. The contract bid packages are scheduled to be available in January, 2003. The estimated project cost is $25,000 - $100,000.
