Description
The Government has a requirement for a fishing vessel to conduct a mid-water to near-surface pelagic trawl survey of juvenile salmonids and associated fishes, neuston, plankton, and other biological and physical oceanographic measurements off SW Washington and N Oregon in 2003 with options for the same work in 2004 and 2005. The Government will supply the trawl net, doors, and floats. The charter will begin in either Warrenton, OR, or Astoria, OR on or about 24 April through 30 July each year. There will be 3 10-day sampling cruises occurring o/a the last 10 days of May, June, and September. There will be an additional 12 days of sampling that will occur just before or after one of the 3 scheduled cruises. Total number of sampling days to be completed each year is 42. Sampling will be conducted both at night and daylight but primarily during the day. Vessel requirements include: minimum length of 20m (85 ft); minimum continuous horsepower from the main engine of approximately 500 hp; minimum cruising speed of 15 km/hr (8 kts.) in low sea states; must be completely rigged for mid-water trawling; flush deck area for sampling equipment including an area (approximately 8 x 8 ft square) where a sampling table for working on catches and obtaining biological data can be set up.
