Description
The purpose of this contract is to acquire the services of an acute care hospital (hereafter identified as the Contractor) located within 25 miles of the NIH campus in Bethesda, MD (9000 Rockville Pike, Bethesda, MD 20892) to support the clinical and research efforts of the NIH. The NIH seeks to facilitate the research mission of the NINDS Stroke Branch Section of Stroke Diagnostics and Therapeutics and to further the NINDS Strategic Plan On Minority Health Disparities by implementing its initiative to establish an acute stroke research and care center in a Washington metropolitan area hospital serving predominantly minority populations. Two major elements of this program will be a comprehensive stroke care and research center and a 3.0 Tesla MRI research facility for stroke and cardiac research used by NINDS and NHLBI staff (hereafter identified as the NIH Team). Although the Contractor will not be conducting any of the research under this program, they will be providing support and clinical services including but not limited to: patient identification and referral; MRI technologist and CT support for MRI imaging of prospective patients for referral and research subjects; emergency preparation and blinding of study drugs by a hospital pharmacist; chemistry and hematological laboratory tests required by the NIH Team research protocols and NIH Stroke Care Pathway; general radiological services; nursing services; neurosurgical and neuroradiological services; interventional cardiology and cardiac surgery services; neurointensive care and monitoring. All resources (facilities, equipment, and personnel) necessary to perform the contract requirements must be in place and operational at the time of the initiation of the contract, with the exception of the 3.0 Tesla MRI facility. The 3.0 Tesla MRI facility must be operational within six months of contract award. During the initial period of non-availability of the 3.0 Tesla MRI facility, the contractor shall make available a 1.5 Tesla MRI scanner to perform requirements under this SOW in support of the NIH team.
