Description
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service - Region 7 is once again soliciting proposals for Alaska Coastal Conservation Grants. The Coastal Program, established in Alaska in 2000, provides technical assistance and matching grants for projects that identify, restore, and protect Alaska's coastal habitats and their fish and wildlife resources. We especially target projects that build broad conservation partnerships throughout south coastal Alaska. To date, we have assisted partners on more than 70 projects, ranging from site-specific wetland, upland and stream habitat protection and restoration efforts to development of watershed-scale conservation plans to species-specific conservation programs for brown bears, amphibians, shellfish, and marine plants. Grant awards have ranged from $1,700 to $25,000. Applications are encouraged from non-profit organizations, educational organizations, state, local, and tribal governments. A description of the Alaska Coastal Program is available at http://alaska.fws.gov/es/cpcaring.pdf. Grant application guidelines are available at http://alaska.fws.gov/es/cpapplic.pdf, or you can contact Region 7's points-of-contact (identified below) for a hard copy. To reduce your paperwork burden, we are again asking that proposals be limited to 3 pages in length. Proposals must be postmarked, faxed or e-mailed by January 31, 2003 for consideration in this funding cycle. Your proposals will be reviewed promptly; we plan to announce grant awards by February 28, 2003. Neil Stichert is the Region 7 contact for Southeast Alaska grant proposals at (907) 586-7482 or neil_stichert@fws.gov. John DeLapp is the Region 7 contact for Southcentral Alaska projects John DeLapp at (907) 271-1799 or john_delapp@fws.gov.
