- Description
- The Committee for Purchase From People Who are Blind or Severely Disabled (Committee) is pursuing partnerships with U.S. commercial manufacturers of nontextile industrial wiping materials which meet the following criteria: 1) Possession of a nationally known brand name that can be demonstrated to have significant appeal through evidence of substantial sales. 2) Construction shall incorporate a reinforced component for strength and durability together with fibers for softness and absorbency. 3) Engineered to feel like cloth but maintains strength in solvents as well as laundered cloth shop towels, absorbes more water and oil faster than laundered cloth shop towels on a pound for pound basis, and has a high overall wet strength. 4) Willingness to enter into a multi-year agreement, which includes technical assistance, to have a nonprofit agency that meets the criteria of the Javits-Wagner-O'Day Program to convert, package, and distribute the products in question thereby creating employment for people who are blind or severely disabled. 5) Commitment to working independently with the JWOD team to market the products to Government customers under the JWOD Program. 6) Willingness to work with the nonprofit agency, NIB or NISH and the Committee to ensure that the products' price to end-users is a fair and reasonable price. 7) Manufacturers' submissions must demonstrate that the specific product meets the various criteria, as well as indicate what functions the nonprofit agency's employees would perform. The deadline for response is February 14, 2003.
