Description
The U.S. National Park Service intends to award a number of concession contracts for guiding river rafting float trips on that portion of the international Alsek River within Glacier Bay NPP. Up to 24 river trips are available to be awarded via the process described in this prospectus. The contracts to be awarded will be for the period January 1, 2004 through December 31, 2013. The Alsek River, and it's Canadian tributary - the Tatshenshini River, is a large volume, glacial river system. Commercially guided trips on the Tatshenshini River average 10 days in length (140 miles); trips on the Alsek River average 12 days in length and (180) miles. The last 50 miles of both trips are in the United States and within Glacier Bay NPP. The Alsek River is within the 25 million acre St. Elias Mountain Parks World Heritage Site and managed cooperatively by U.S. National Park Service and a number of Canadian land managers. The NPS intends to award five of the 24 river trips to the following four companies: Chilkat Guides (1 trip), Colorado River and Trail Expeditions (1 trip), James Henry River Journeys (1 trip) and Wilderness River Outfitters (2 trips). These contracts will be awarded pursuant to section 1307 of the Alaska National Interest Lands Conservation Act, 16 USC 3197 and 36 CFR 13.80-13.82. Generally historical operators have a right to continue to provide the same kind and scope of service that they were legally engaged in providing prior to January 1, 1979 pursuant to 36 CFR 13.82(a). NPS has determined that these four companies are historical operators eligible to be awarded contracts. To obtain a copy of the prospectus, contact David Nemeth as shown above. An electronic copy is available on the internet at www.nps.gov/glba The prospectus will explain the business opportunity, the terms and conditions under which the NPS will award the concession contract, the proposal instructions and proposal package (including the selection factors). The solicitation, selection and award of the concession contract will be conducted pursuant to 36 CFR Part 51. Proposals are due by the date and time shown above at National Park Service, Alaska Regional Office, Attn: Concessions Division, 2525 Gambell Street, Room 107, Anchorage, Alaska 99503-2892
