- Description
- Purpose: To identify potential sources for low density polyethylene laminated kraft paper for use in the production of fiber ammunition tubes. Background: The Army has a need to field water-vapor resistant/ durable fiber ammunition tubes. In the past, this has been achieved through the use of asphalt coated or asphalt-impregnated kraft papers used in the multi-layer windings of the tubes or through a wax-dipping procedure. Both of these methods present environmental and production problems. Recently, a PolyLam fiber ammunition tube was developed, which uses low density polyethylene laminated kraft papers for the construction of the tube. Currently only one source for the paper has been identified. Paper Requirements: The paper must be black in color through and through (meaning that the kraft paper must be black in color and the polyethylene laminate/impregnation must be either black in color or clear). The paper/laminated surface shall be resistant toatches/delamination/gouges. Two paper types are sought. Each of those papers must meet or exceed the values in the respective table. (Separate file showing the table is provided on procnet.) The Government will utilize the information for planning purposes only. All information submitted will be held in a confidential status. Interested firms should provide a summary of their capabilities. Any information provided, will be at no cost to the Government. Commercial items are preferred.
