Description

The Naval Air System Command proposes to procure engineering support services to support the U.S. Navy?s integration of an embedded Terrain Awareness Warning System (eTAWS) capability onto a Type II PCMCIA card modified to host the eTAWS algorithm, Digital Terrain Elevation Data, and a processor on both the AN/ASQ-215 Digital Data Set (DDS) and Advanced Memory Unit (AMU) for use in the EA-6B and T-45 aircraft. The services procured in support of the eTAWS include modifications to an existing manufactured PCMCIA card, engineering and technical support, and associated data documenting this engineering change. Modification will include the addition of 500 megabytes of Flash memory, the addition of a commercial based Digital Signal Processor (DSP), and the incorporation of a commercially available Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA). The services will be acquired sole source basis from Smiths Aerospace - Electronic Systems, Germantown, MD. Smiths Aerospace is the only known source that possesses the necessary technical data, knowledge, experience, and expertise to produce a PCMCIA card that can host the eTAWS code on both the DDS and AMU due to their sole ownership of the data rights to the DDS and AMU Operational Flight Programs (OFPs).
