Description
The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) is interested in chartering a seaworthy vessel for a minimum of 18 days and a maximum of 30 days, between the dates 23 June and 25 July 2003. The charter will be divided into 2 cruises separated by a 2 to 4 day break. The area of operation will be western Prince William Sound and both cruises will originate and end in Whittier, Alaska. During the first cruise, the vessel will provide transportation and support for up to 6 people. The second cruise will require transportation and support for up to 8 people. Project objectives include: 1. Cruise 1: Collecting sea otter foraging data around northern Knight Island. 2. Cruise 2: Capturing sea otters in the vicinity of northern Knight Island (Bay of Isles, Disk Island, and Herring Bay) for the collection of blood, liver samples, and other body condition parameters so comparisons can be made between the two areas. Boat operator's license and proof of insurance are required. Vessel must meet Coast Guard standards for an "oceanographic research vessel"; contact the Anchorage Coast Guard at 907-271-6762 for more information. Contractor will provide name and detailed description of vessel and a vessel survey with quote. Vessel must provide lab and storage space. Vessel will be inspected before award. Captain must have 3 years experience. Vessel shall be capable of 6 knots cruising speed and shall be equipped with radar, GPS, Depth Sounder, EPIRB, safety equipment, medical kit, current nautical charts, 2 VHF radios. All responsible small business sources may submit a quotation, which shall be considered by the agency. The NAICS code is 483114, for which the small business size standard is 500. A Request for Quote will be issued with an anticipated award date of April 10. See Note 1. Please submit your request in writing to Verita Friesner at email address: vfriesner@usgs.gov, or Fax (650) 329-5114, US Geological Survey, Branch of Acquisition of Grants, 7801 Folsom, Blvd, Suite 210, Sacramento CA 95826.
