- Description
- The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), Center for Neutron Research (NCNR), has a requirement for the fabrication, filling and painting of 13 radiation shields with the option for 70 additional shields per NIST provided specifications (all 70 are identical). The shields will be used by NIST in the execution of a plan to upgrade the suite of scientific instruments in the thermal neutron source confinement building. These shields serve as engineered radiation control systems. Their function is shielding radiation that is not useful for the function of the scientific instrumentation in accordance with achieving an experimental environment in which the background radiation is as low as reasonably achievable. The shields consist of complex containers that are designed from weldable carbon steel components. Generally, the components consist of 3/8" hot rolled steel plates. The shields shall be filled with a mixture of steel shot and paraffin wax. All boxes shall be primed and painted prior to delivery.***The period of performance shall be four (4) weeks from date of award.*** FOB is destination, Gaithersburg, MD.***This requirement is being procured using full and open competition.***A fixed-price contract is anticipated.***The NAICS code for this requirement is 334516 with a size standard of 500 employees.***The competitive Request for Proposal (RFP), technical drawings & specifications, RFP amendments, and all questions and answers related to this procurement will be made available via the Internet at http://www.fedbizopps.gov/ under RFP number SB1341-03-R-0019.***The RFP is anticipated for release to the vendor community on or about April 6, 2003, and will only be available via the Internet at the above web site. Potential offerors are responsible for accessing the web site. Interested parties must respond to the RFP in order to be considered for award of any resultant contract. There is no written solicitation document available, telephone requests will not be honored, and no bidders list will be maintained.
