- The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) will sponsor its Fourth Annual Small Business Conference on May 12-15, 2002, in Albuquerque, New Mexico at the Albuquerque Convention Center. This year's conference theme Securing Economic Freedom-Empowering Small Business reflects DOE'S response to the President's Agenda on Small Business as well as DOE'S commitment to small businesses. The conference plays a major role in providing procurement guidance and contracting opportunities to small business. The conference will bring together representatives of the Department, its prime contractors, our network of National Laboratories, and several other Federal agencies to provide valuable information about business lines and upcoming contracting opportunities at DOE and at other agencies as well. The Department continues to be committed to fully engaging small businesses, including small disadvantaged, 8(a), women-owned businesses, and HUBZone small business concerns, in DOE's core missions. DOE has exciting opportunities to offer small businesses in the areas of commodities, administrative services, science, security, and environmental quality and energy resources. It is important that business leaders, advocates, and DOE program representatives celebrate the achievements of DOE small business partners, as well as build new and stronger alliances between the small business community and DOE laboratories. DOE has received positive reviews on the previous three conferences, as well as recommendations from the small business community. This year's conference will continue to provide the essential information and guidance needed to do business with the Department and will also incorporate some of the significant recommendations received from prior years. It is through outreach activities such as this that the Department finds small businesses with the capabilities to match its contracting opportunities.
