- Description
- The National Cancer Institute (NCI), Division of Cancer Treatment and Diagnosis (DCTD), Biomedical Imaging Program (BIP) plans to enter into a sole source contract with Dr. Gary Dorfman, Saunderstown, RI 02874. The Biomedical Imaging Program (BIP) has responsibility for the planning, evaluation, and coordination of all extramural NCI research related to diagnostic imaging and Image Guided Interventions and Therapy. Dr. Dorfman, an expert in the field of diagnostic imaging and image guided therapy and interventions and will consult with the BIP in several areas: 1) in examining and developing appropriate standards for data collection from trials which examine the current state of image guided therapy and intervention supported by the NCI to assure that the technologies and clinical trials methodologies being used are state of the art; 2) assess how to expand the role of radiologists and other interventionalists in the NCI-funded Cancer Centers, Cooperative Groups, and SPORE programs to interact in the development of state of the art image guided therapy and intervention techniques and trials, 3) examine potential roadblocks in increasing recruitment of radiologists and interventionalists in participating and designing image guided therapy and intervention trials; 4) clarify and define further the goal of inter-Institute coordination of image-guided therapy and intervention activities from both a technological and clinical applications perspective; 5) establish appropriate liaisons with numerous professional organizations such as the Radiological Society of North America, the Society of Interventional Radiology, and the National Electrical Manufacturer's Association to foster collaborations, which would subsequently promote the developing disciplines of image-guided therapy and interventions. Dorfman a interventional radiologist with 25 years experience in image-guided and intervention practice and research and has a unique background in health care policy planning and implementation. He is well known and highly respected and due to his contacts and reputation in the filed of imaging and Interventional Radiology he is the only source that can meet the BIPs needs. This is not a request for competitive quotation. However, if any interested party believes it can meet the above requirement, it may submit a statement of capabilities. The statement of capabilities and any other information furnished must be in writing and must contain material in sufficient detail to allow the NCI staff to determine if the party can perform this requirement. An original and one copy of the capability statements must be received in the contracting office by 1:00 p.m. EST, on April 3, 2003. All questions must be in writing and can be faxed to (301) 402-4513 or emailed to dm170b@nih.gov . It is the vendor's responsibility to call (301) 402-4509 to insure questions have been received. A determination by the Government not to compete this proposed requirement based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government. Information received will be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement. No collect call will be accepted.
