Description
The National Institute of Child Health and Human Development plans to issue a Request for Proposals to re-compete two on-going Brain and Tissue Banks for Developmental Disorders. The Brain and Tissue Banks will continue to: 1) provide families of children with developmental disorders a convenient means to arrange an autopsy and satisfy their need for optimizing this opportunity scientifically; 2) provide a standardized approach for the study of neurodevelopmental disorders with unusual features or unknown diagnosis; 3) ensure that tissues will be taken and preserved with a minimum of delay and postmortem artifact; 4) provide researchers access to tissues from rare diseases, from pediatric neurotrama cases, and also age-matched controls; 5) serve as a resource for DNA and RNA for numerous studies including genetic research; 6) serve as a resource for studies utilizing new proteomic technologies and studies which include epigenetic and imprinting/gene regulatory phenomena; and 7) provide material for longitudinal studies of normal and aberrant brain development including malformations. The Request for Proposals, RFP-NIH-NICHD-2003-14 will be available on or about March 27, 2003. All responsible organizations are encouraged to submit a proposal that will be due May 27, 2003.
