Description
NA MARINE SIGNAL, SMOKE AND ILLUMINATION, MK124 MOD 0 DUE 042503 POC is Mark Dorr, (309) 782-7099 DESC: The purpose of this Sources Sought/Market Survey is to identify production sources for the Marine Signal, Smoke and Illumination, MK 124 MOD 0, NSN 1370-01 -030-8330. Both the Air force and Navy use this signal for either day or night rescue signaling by personnel on land or sea. It is carried by personnel in life vest or flight suit pockets and on life rafts. The signal consist of an aluminum case approximat ely 5.376 inches long and 1.638 inches in diameter with a protective cap on each end. The case has two raised beads on the flare end (night) and a label on the outer surface further identifies the flare end and the smoke end (day). The case contains four s ubassemblies: smoke candle, smoke igniter, flare candle, and flare igniter. The igniter is one-hand operable and consists of an arming lever that must be extended before functioning and a mechanism that cocks then releases the firing pin. The striker on t he firing pin hits a primer, which ignites the flare candle (night) or the smoke candle (day) depending on the display desired. The smoke signal display is orange and the flare display is red. The display last approximately 20 seconds.
