Description

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), National Weather Service (NWS), Silver Spring, Md., intends to Issue a Purchase Order to the Great Plains Network (GPN) GigaPoP, P.O. Box 3788, Lawrence, KS 66046-0788, for access from the NWS Central Region Headquarters (CRH) to the Internet2 Abilene network. The NWS will have connectivity to the Internet2 Abilene Network at the DS3 data rate, as a member of the GPN. The Internet2 Abilene network connects hundreds of national and international Institutions conducting advanced research and development in numerous Scientific disciplines including Meteorology. The NWS intends to provide Next Generation Radar (NEXRAD) Level II archive data to the university research community, to the National Climatic Data Center (NCDC, and to the National Center for Environmental Prediction (NCEP) through the Abilene high-speed network. The GPN is the sole provider of connectivity to the Abilene network in the Kansas City area. Vendors who believe that they can meet this requirement are required to submit in writing an affirmative response demonstrating they can meet the Governments requirements. All written responses must include a written narrative statement of capability, including detailed technical information and other technical literature demonstrating the ability to meet the above requirement. A determination by the Government not to open the requirement to competition based upon responses to this notice is solely with the discretion of the Government. Affirmative responses must be received no later than 15 calendar days after the posting of this notice via email at maxine.hodges@noaa.gov.
