Description

The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (formerly the Agency for Health Care Policy and Research) intends to negotiate on a sole source basis with American College of Physicians, 190 N. Independence Mall West, Philadelphia, PA 19106-1572. The purpose of the contract is to provide is to support the preparation of outside articles by researchers and experts in the field of evidence-based medicine and clinical decision making in order to 1) expand the body of information in the field and 2) provide the broadest dissemination of the findings and information to the target audience of clinical health care decision makers. The estimated period of performance is two years. The proposed contractor, the American College of Physicians, is the largest professional organization of internal medicine physicians in the United States. Annals of Internal Medicine, which is the official journal of the College is the most widely read clinical journal within the internal medicine community. The journal is subscribed to by approximately 100,000 internal medicine practitioners, over 60% involved in direct patient care. This is the exact target population for this project. The journal, with its unique focus in internal medicine, will attract top clinicians and scientists in the field to submit articles in the area of interest. In addition, with the largest membership of internal medicine physicians, they are in the unique position to have access to a pool of the most qualified reviewers. No other organizations so fully represents the clinical decision maker in internal medicine in the United States. A determination by the Government not to compete this proposed contract based on responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government.
