Description
The VA National Acquisition Center will issue Solicitation RFP-797-NC-03-0022, for the Dept. of Veterans Affairs=92 requirements for a Non-3A4 Statin, as the Dept. of Veterans Affairs desires to standardize on an HMG- CoA agent not extensively metabolized by the cytochrome P450 (CYP) metabolic pathway. A comprehensive drug class review was completed and resulted in a decision that only two agents could meet the requirements. The following two drugs met the criteria set by the Medical Advisory Panel (MAP), VISN Formulary Leaders (VFLs), Pharmacy Benefit Management Group (PBM): Fluvastatin Pravastatin The VA will place the awarded agent on the VA National Formulary (VANF) as the agent to be used when a patient requires a Statin not extensively metabolized by the cytochrome P450 (CYP) metabolic pathway. VA will exclude the losing agent from the VANF and any VISN or local Medical Center formulary. The VANF will also contain a generic form of lovastatin and a high potency Statin (simvastatin). The maximum number of Statins that could be placed in a formulary status at any VISN or VA Medical Center is three; simvastatin, generic lovastatin and the awarded Non-3A4 Statin. VA had 9,200 unique utilizers consuming approximately 1,800,000 Non-3A4 Statin tablets in FY02 Indian Health Service and Bureau of Prisons may submit additional requirements, but the Solicitation will clearly state whether these two agencies are included, and if so, what their additional annual usage is expected to be. The contract period will be for a period of one year, plus four one-year options. Distribution will be through the VA Prime Vendor.=20 The Solicitation will be available for downloading on or about 6/2/03, at the VA Office of Acquisition and Materiel Management's internet web site at http://www.va.gov/oa&mm/busopp/sols.htm. Offers will be due 7/2/03. If a hard copy of this solicitation is desired, please fax your request to Deborah Koval at 708/786-5256, or e-mail request to deborah.koval@med.va.gov, and a copy will be sent to you when it issues, on or about 6/2/03.
