- Description
- 6.3 Program Research and Development Announcement (PRDA) The Air Force Research Laboratory, Munitions Directorate, Ordnance Division, Ordnance Integration Branch (AFRL/MNMI) is interested in receiving technical and cost proposals for development and demonstration of an Agent Defeat Munition from firms interested in development of munition systems. Current inventory hard target penetrators are designed to deliver and detonate a high explosive payload within the interior of hardened structures, such that maximum damage is inflicted on the target structure and it?s contents. However, this approach against fixed hardened targets associated with the development, production, and storage of chemical (C) agents, biological (B) agents, and CB weapons (CBW) is not desired because of the release of the agents into the atmosphere, which contributes to collateral damage. A number of studies have shown the need for a penetrating weapon that is capable of delivering an alternative payload within a hardened structure in a manner that minimizes blast overpressure while inflicting damage to the target contents and limiting collateral damage. The primary goal of the baseline 24-month Shredder Program is to develop and demonstrate a penetrating warhead (BLU 109) with a payload consisting of White Phosphorous and High Explosive (PBXN ?109) for use against these fixed hardened targets. An IDIQ contract type will provide for a 60-month total ordering period and the ability to vary the payload and/or quantities in future Task Orders should additional funds become available. Please refer to attachments posted at this site for detailed Program Research and Development Announcement (PRDA) information.
