- Description
- The National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences is seeking Offerors who have the capability to test approximately twenty-five (25) chemicals per year up to ten (10) years for somatic cell genetic effects in animals, usually rats and/or mice and 50 chemicals per year in the bacteria assay for point mutations. Endpoints to be assessed will include: Task 1 - Micronuclei in bone marrow and/or other tissues (e.g. lung, spleen, peripheral lymphocytes). In these studies, animals will be treated in the contract laboratory. Task 2 - Micronuclei in peripheral erythrocytes from sub-chronic studies. In these studies, animals will be treated in other laboratories and cells will be shipped to the contract laboratory for micronucleus scoring. Task 3 - Centromeric probe analysis of micronuclei Task 4 - Single cell gel electrophoresis assays of various tissues Task 5 - Point mutations is salmonella TA98, 100 and 102 Task 6- The Government anticipates a need for work for assay development equivalent to 5% of the work required to perform tasks 1 to 5. Task 7 - Analysis of genetic toxicity information New technology has automated the process of counting the number of micronuclei cells on slides and therefore a Flow Cytometer is required of the Offeror to perform this project. The Government estimates that Tasks one (1) to six (6) will require approximately six (6) to seven (7) person-years per year. Task seven (7) will require one (1) person-year and this position is will be on site at the NIEHS and office space, equipment, and materials will be provided by the government. The period of performance will be ten (10) years. The North American Industry Classification Code (NAICS) is 541710 and the small size standard is 500 employees or less. The estimated date for receipt of proposals is June 10th, 2003. See numbered Notes 1 and 26.
